LASTMA REINFORCES ‘EMBER MONTHS’ CAMPAIGN

In furtherance to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s (LASTMA) efforts at ensuring free-flow of traffic during the yuletide, the agency held an ‘ember months’ meeting and advocacy with the Mile 12 Food Traders’ Executives on Thursday 25th November 2021, at the LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi.

The General Manager of the agency, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, requested the cooperation of the traders in ensuring free flow of traffic throughout the yuletide season and beyond, especially as there are traders’ traffic enforcement wardens, who should ensure adherence to the State’s traffic rules and regulations.

He urged residents to cooperate with the traffic personnel to ensure unhindered and free-flowing traffic during the celebrations in the interest of the sellers, buyers and the motoring public at large.

During the interactive engagement, executives of the Mile 12 traders disclosed the existence of a park that can accommodate five hundred vehicles and prevent disruption of traffic, promising to work with the National Union of Road Transport Workers to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

While promising to locate a heavy-duty towing vehicle at Mile 12 to immediately evacuate any broken-down vehicle, the General Manager constituted an inspection team to visit the Mile 12 traders’ car park for assessment and further recommendations.

Oreagba maintained that trucks conveying food items must not remain on the roads outside the markets between 8p.m and 5p.m, being the rush hours, to prevent traffic gridlocks around the area.

He, therefore, encouraged all road users to remain law-abiding as they go about their daily activities this season.

Present at the meeting were delegates from the traders’ unions – Umar Idris, Chairman, Yam Traders Association and Olusegun Ebinyi, Chairman, Perishable Foods Traders, among others.
